2019 FIRST Global Robotic Challenge SMART Sistas Team Vanuatu Sponsorship letter

The SMART Sistas has been representing Team Vanuatu to take part in the First Global Robotic Challenge since 2017. This year 2019, the SMART Sistas Vanuatu Team are eagerly preparing for the 2019 FIRST Global Robotic Challenge to take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on October 24 – 27, 2019 at the Coca-Cola Arena.

Our SMART Sistas committee is quite fortunate to have nominated Romney Marum, Manager Engineering & Consumer Care Division in the office of the Utilities Regulatory Authority as our local Technical mentor and Doreen Leona, Project Manager of a GEF/UNDP funded project with the Department of Energy, Ministry of Climate Change. Doreen is also the Secretary of SMART Sistas Committee and the Chairlady for Women and Girls in ICT- Vanuatu. Both Romney and Doreen will assist in our planning and preparation.

Last year with some financial support, we were able to send three young engineers and two mentors to the FIRST Global robotics challenge in Mexico City, Mexico! Whether you have been with us since the first SMART Sistas ICT camp in 2016 or joined us this year for the 4th SMART Sistas Girls ICT Camp; we hope that you have been able to see the importance and positive impact this program is having on the participants and their communities. You know our story and we are submitting this letter to give you an update on our success and ask that you help us meet our fundraising target.

The FIRST Global Challenge theme for 2019 is “Ocean Opportunities”. Every year millions of tons of pollutants, generated by human activity, make their way into the world’s oceans, negatively affecting marine life and global populations. The 2019 FIRST Global Challenge brings attention to this critical issue in order to educate ourselves and take action to preserve our oceans and wildlife. This year teams will learn about real world challenges related to cleaning up the world’s oceans. These students are doing much more than competing in a robotics game – they are learning that these challenges will only be overcome when people realize that we are all on the same team, and that with technology, we can accomplish things we can only imagine by communicating, cooperating, and working together to apply technology as a tool for positive change in the world.

The SMART Sistas, mentors, committee members, parents and community members are all working hard to raise the 745,000 Vatu (VUV) needed for our 2019 team of five students and two mentors to secure visas, travel and prepare for the 2019 FIRST Global Challenge, but we need your support. To assist you with what is required, we have attached to this letter the expenses involved. All donors’ logos will be displayed on the FIRST Global Website, Team Vanuatu Banner, T-Shirts, Polo Shirts and Team Vanuatu Track Suite.

Additional sponsorship opportunities are available:
GOLD 100,000 vatu                   SILVER 50,000 vatu           BRONZE 25,000 vatu

To meet our goal we will exhaust every resource right up to our departure in October.
